Head of Government holds talks with CEO of the Automotive Manufacturing Group Stellantis

  • Stellantis Group to double production capacity at its Kenitra plant, aspires to produce 450,000 cars annually in Morocco.
  • The project, estimated at a total cost of €300 million, will create 2,000 new jobs.

The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, received, on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the Head of Government's Office in Rabat, Mr. Carlos Tavares, CEO of the multinational group Stellantis, which specializes in manufacturing cars, accompanied by Mr. Samir Cherfan, Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East and Africa of the same group. 

The meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Ryad Mezzour, and the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation, Mr. Mohcine Jazouli, focused on the desire of this world-leading group to strengthen its investment in Morocco and to double the production capacity of its plant in Kenitra, with a total investment envelope of 300 million euros. Thus, the production capacity of the Kenitra plant will reach 450.000 cars per year (thermal and electric).
 

His Majesty the King inaugurated on June 20, 2019, the Stellantis factory in Kenitra, which currently employs more than 3,000 people, achieving a local integration rate of 69%. 
On this occasion, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch recalled the royal directives related to attracting foreign investments and improving the business climate, noting that the current government has taken many measures in this regard, foremost of which is the issuance of the new investment charter. 
Mr. Akhannouch also praised the involvement of the Stellantis Group, despite the climate of crisis, in developing its investments in Morocco, and explained that the doubling of the production capacity of its plant in Kenitra will contribute to the creation of 2,000 new jobs, stressing that this is in line with the contents of the government program, which aspires to revive employment.
The head of government proudly noted the contribution of Moroccan executives to the development of the electric car industry at the Kenitra plant (Citroën AMI  and Opel rocks-e), pointing to the contribution of a group of Moroccan engineers and technicians in the design and manufacture of these cars.
For their part, the two officials of the Stellantis Group thanked the government's efforts in simplifying investment procedures, noting the attractiveness of investments in the Kingdom in the field of automotive manufacturing, and the care that this sector enjoys in Morocco.
