The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, held talks on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in Rabat, with Mr. Ángel Victor Torres, President of the Canary Islands Regional Government, who is on a working visit to Morocco. He was accompanied by Mr. Ricardo Diez Hoch Leitner, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Morocco.
This visit is part of the continuation of the positive dynamic launched by the twelfth session of the Morocco-Spain high-level meeting held last February in Rabat, chaired by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, and his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sánchez. It also opens the door for regional governments in Spain to engage in consolidating the positive position of the central government in Madrid on the national issue, which confirms the validity of the autonomy plan, as the most serious, realistic, and credible basis for resolving the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The head of government welcomed the strong bilateral relations between Morocco and the Canary Islands, noting that the historical ties and geographical proximity between the two sides open up promising prospects for economic partnership.
Mr. Aziz Akhannouch praised the Canarian companies based in Morocco, which are interested in the great potential available in the Kingdom in the tourism and renewable energy sectors. He pointed out that this bilateral economic partnership can be strengthened at the level of a range of fields, including seawater desalination and tourism.
In this meeting, the two sides praised the joint coordination between Morocco and Spain in the migration file and the fight against human trafficking networks. It was also an opportunity to discuss ways of partnership and cooperation between the Canary Islands and the various regions of the Kingdom of Morocco.
