The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, received, on Thursday, April 30, 2026, in Rabat, Mr. Christopher Landau, US Deputy Secretary of State, who is on an official visit to Morocco.
These talks, in which the US Ambassador to Morocco, Mr. Duke Buchan, took part, provided an opportunity to examine ways to consolidate the strategic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, under the leadership of the two Heads of State, HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and the US President, HE Donald Trump.
During this meeting, the Head of Government expressed the Kingdom of Morocco's appreciation for the position of the United States of America regarding the national question, as the USA reiterated, yesterday Wednesday, its recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara and emphasized its steadfast support for the Moroccan autonomy proposal, describing it as the only basis for reaching a just and lasting solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
The Head of Government also welcomed the support provided by Washington to American companies wishing to invest in the Kingdom's southern provinces, particularly in the sectors of green hydrogen, tourism, agriculture, and green energies. He highlighted the leading role that Morocco can play as a gateway linking American investments to the African continent, within the framework of a win-win partnership.
The two parties also discussed the opportunities to develop economic, investment, and trade partnerships between Morocco and the United States, and emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation through, in particular, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). They also stressed the importance of supporting and framing the activities of American operators in the social sector, particularly in education and health.
The meeting was also an opportunity to recall the depth of historic bilateral relations, since the signing in 1787 of the Moroccan-American Treaty of Peace and Friendship, and to express the shared aspiration for promising prospects between the two friendly countries.
