The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, launched a series of development projects on Monday, April 27, 2026, in Tafraout, in the presence of the Minister of Health and Social Protection, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, the Director General of the Territorial Health Group of the Souss-Massa region, as well as several local actors.
These development projects are part of the government's commitment to ensuring a comprehensive upgrading of the territories and addressing social and spatial disparities, in execution of the High Royal Directives, with the aim of bringing the considerable development efforts deployed by the State closer to the citizens.
In the health sector, the Head of Government laid the foundation stone for the construction project of the Tafraout local hospital. Built on an area of 4 hectares with a total funding of 227 million dirhams and a capacity of 45 beds, this facility aims to facilitate citizens' access to basic health services and spare them the hardship and travel costs to other regions for medical treatment. It also aims to improve the working conditions of health professionals, so as to ensure efficient services, a stimulating professional environment, and a sustainable improvement in health care indicators at the regional level.
The hospital will offer a diverse basket of medical and therapeutic services benefiting approximately 70,000 inhabitants of the Tiznit province. These services will include general and specialized medicine, general surgery, gynecology-obstetrics, pediatrics, resuscitation and anesthesia, radiology, as well as pneumology, cardiology, and nursing care, thereby ensuring comprehensive patient care while meeting their various health needs.
Regarding the social and solidarity economy, the Head of Government was briefed on the project to create and equip an exhibition and sales area for handicraft products in the municipality of Tafraout, as well as a project to upgrade the handicraft market. These projects aim to promote the traditional heritage and enhance the region's tourist attractiveness.
Furthermore, the Head of Government visited the construction project of a weekly market and a livestock market. Covering a total area of over 16,000 square meters, this project will contribute to the creation of hundreds of jobs, the promotion of local products, the support of local breeders' incomes, and the reduction of travel flows to Tiznit and Agadir for weekly shopping.
The Head of Government also inquired about the construction project of a new slaughterhouse built to modern standards in the municipality of Tafraout. This will help reduce losses in the meat supply chain by nearly 20% and guarantee the sanitary quality of products offered on the markets through regular veterinary control.
This visit was also an opportunity to present several planned projects, including urban landscaping and the upgrading of under-equipped neighborhoods, the creation of a green area featuring children's playgrounds, and the project to build a "Dar Talib" (Student House). Added to this are a project to build a multipurpose entertainment space, a project for the development of a campsite, as well as a new headquarters for the Tafraout municipality. During his visit, the Head of Government also reviewed the development project for the municipal stadium, which will be equipped with synthetic turf, in addition to various necessary sports and sanitary facilities.
