On Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Rabat, the Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, chaired a meeting of the National Commission in charge of monitoring the pension reform dossier. This meeting followed the conclusions drawn during the April 2025 session of the High Commission for Social Dialogue. It was dedicated to assessing the current state of the pension systems and establishing a consensus-based agreement on the working mechanisms and approach to be adopted, with the aim of developing an appropriate framework for this issue.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of Government commended the progress made during previous social dialogue sessions, particularly regarding income improvements and enhancing the purchasing power of the working class. He emphasized that these achievements reflect successful collective intelligence in crafting solutions through a consensual framework and in strengthening the role of social and economic partners.
Mr. Aziz Akhannouch reaffirmed the government's strong commitment to addressing this critical social issue through a participatory and trust-based approach, which he described as a strategic choice for the government. He stated that this effort is part of the broader implementation of fundamental reforms that uphold the rights of public servants, employees, and retirees; preserve business competitiveness; ensure the financial sustainability and longevity of pension systems; and contribute to reinforcing social peace—a goal actively pursued by this government.
During the meeting, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Ms. Nadia Fettah, gave a presentation on the status of various pension systems, including demographic and financial indicators. She also presented the guiding principles and proposed methodology that will serve as the basis for debate and collaboration, aimed at achieving a unified vision that protects the rights of public servants, employees, and retirees while ensuring the financial sustainability of the pension systems.
