The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, received on Thursday, 29 January 2026, in Rabat, the President of the French National Assembly, Ms. Yaël Braun-Pivet, and the President of the French Senate, Mr. Gérard Larcher, who are paying an official visit to the Kingdom at the head of a joint parliamentary delegation to take part in the proceedings of the 5th Session of the Morocco–France Interparliamentary Forum, scheduled to be held on 29 and 30 January in Rabat. This visit forms part of efforts to consolidate the partnership between the legislative institutions of the two countries and to strengthen the bonds of friendship and bilateral cooperation.
Also attending this meeting were Mr. Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water; Mr. Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication; Mr. Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson; as well as Mr. Christophe Lecourtier, Ambassador of France to Morocco.
At the outset of the meeting, both sides welcomed the quality of the privileged and longstanding friendly relations that unite the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic, which experienced renewed momentum in October 2024 with the signing by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and the President of the French Republic, H.E. Emmanuel Macron, of the declaration on the “Enhanced Exceptional Partnership”, as well as the signing, in the presence of the two Heads of State, of investment agreements worth €10 billion, covering several strategic sectors.
On this occasion, the Head of Government affirmed that the French Republic’s recognition of the Kingdom’s sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara, and the increasing number of visits by French officials to the Kingdom’s southern provinces, demonstrate France’s clear support for the Autonomy Initiative within the framework of Morocco’s territorial integrity, as the sole basis for a solution to this artificial regional dispute. This recognition also offers new prospects for cooperation and coordination on regional and international issues and strengthens the bilateral economic partnership.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of holding the Morocco–France Interparliamentary Forum as a strategic space for dialogue, consultation and the exchange of views between Moroccan and French parliamentarians, with a view to coordinating positions and examining the various issues of common interest.
