Head of Government presides over meeting dedicated to examining purchasing power
The Head of Government, Fatima-Zahra Mansouri, presided this Tuesday in Rabat over a meeting dedicated to reviewing recent developments in the national economic situation, monitoring changes in citizens’ purchasing power, and analyzing the impact of price fluctuations on the domestic market and the daily lives of the population.
At the opening of the meeting, the President affirmed that the government is fully mindful of the current economic climate and the challenges attending it, and acutely aware of the scale of pressures and burdens weighing on Moroccan households, particularly vulnerable and middle-income social strata.
The President underscored that protecting purchasing power and safeguarding social cohesion represent a paramount priority in rolling out the government programme. She reaffirmed that the government will spare no effort in responding responsibly and effectively to rapid international shifts and in shielding citizens' purchasing power. Furthermore, the executive will formulate and implement practical, tangible, and effective measures aimed at mitigating the impact of price hikes on citizens' daily lives, ensuring price stability, and securing regular supplies of essential commodities and staple goods to the national market.
Within the framework of government vigilance and ongoing monitoring of matters affecting the daily lives of Moroccans, it was decided to establish an interministerial committee bringing together all relevant government departments. This committee will convene on a regular basis to monitor price fluctuations and take all necessary steps to protect citizens’ purchasing power, particularly for goods subject to high demand ahead of and throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Attending this meeting were the Minister of the Interior, the Secretary General of the Government, the Minister of Economy, Finance and Public Performance, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, the Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and Economic Inclusion, and the Minister of Transport and Logistics.
